Dress-up dolls can be adorned with a variety of different outfits. They have existed in many forms throughout the years. Among the first commercially available styles were paper dolls. The clothing for these had fold-up tabs which allowed the clothing items to be affixed to the figure.

The more common dress-up dolls are those of a fashion doll design. A great example of this is Barbie, who has become a cultural icon. What separates these dolls apart from others is that the emphasis is placed upon having a variety of clothing options with which to bedeck them.

Dress-up dolls have even crossed over to the digital world, thanks to advancements in modern technology. Many virtual versions of these fashion figures can be played with online. Some require purchase to download or the purchase of a site membership. Still others are available for free. These online options have their own special appeal. A person can often use the doll they've created as an avatar while they interact with other users.
