Doll House Miniatures
Doll house miniatures come in many different sizes or scales. The "baby houses" of the 1600s and 1800s were not generally created with a standard scale in mind. In fact, many of them had varying scales exhibited within the little home itself.
The Industrial Revolution had a large effect on the manufacturing capability of doll house miniatures. This brought down the expenses of owning such items considerably. At the same time, it still did not result in standardized scales for miniature homes.
Doll house miniatures of today are a bit more standardized. However, there are still many options. The most popular for children is 1:18. For adult collection items, 1:12 is a more common scale. The largest common size available is called play scale at 1:6. The Barbie and Ken dolls of Mattel fall under this category.
